3 Side Hustles for Eager Equestrians

Let’s be honest, our industry is not known for busting out the big paycheques. Don’t get me wrong, there’s so much to love about getting to call ‘playing ponies’ your job. However, we often find ourselves living paycheque to paycheque and wishing for that lottery win!
Now, I understand that creative juices run dry when concerns about paying bills (mostly vet and farrier bills with our lifestyles!) and buying groceries are whirling around your head at the speed of light.
Been there. Done that. Often, we get so caught up in the flow of life and it’s easy to forget that there are other ways to earn a little extra cash per month. Not only can starting a ‘side hustle’ bring in extra income and ease some of that worry but allow you to show off your unique skill sets and spark a little excitement for future possibilities.
There are, of course, hundreds of (legal!) ways these days to earn a little extra money. The aim of this EquiHaven blog is to provide three possible options for Equestrian industry workers that are relatable, mostly passive income and hopefully achievable with the type of lifestyles we possess! Here we go…
ONLINE COURSES: The world of ‘online’ has done nothing but exploded at an unconceivable rate since the Pandemic. More and more businesses are booming from the buzz, so why can’t you too? Our Equestrian world has an abundance of topics, disciplines and knowledge to be shared. Have you got a passion for a part of the industry? Or believe you have skills and helpful systems or information that would be a disservice to others if not shared? Then why not start an online course!
To many, the idea seems scary. I feel that. However, with a little research and the power of YouTube the ‘impossible’ can become possible. Let’s say you could teach impressive and extremely efficient stable management systems that you feel are simple and beneficial to many. Or even a super truck packing system to ensure you won’t go without at shows? These are very monetisable skills to have and provide answers to solve problems of other equine enthusiasts!
PDF: Similarly, like online courses, creating a PDF document that could sell over and over whilst you sleep is a gamechanger. Have you got clipping skills down to a T? Unrivalled tack cleaning tips? Even mane pulling and trimming fit for Valegro himself? Why not create a step-by-step guide to help others to do the same! This is a fantastic idea, as once the time has been taken to create the PDF, it can be sold in an ‘evergreen’ fashion. This means that income can be made on repeat yearly, with no extra effort on your part in your busy horsey life.
YOUTUBE: I can hear your thoughts already. Yes, this one does require a little more work and maintenance. However, building a community on YouTube can provide many perks – and not only financially! Providing viewers with unique and useful content can allow a sense of purpose to develop and friendships to grow. With time, dedication and a little luck, exposure to a worldwide audience can earn you a few pennies through advertising. This can be grown further through affiliate marketing of other businesses and products. Throw your skills and messages out into the universe and you may be presently surprised!
The world is your oyster! It’s up to you to utilise the skills that each and every one of you possess. Not only were you born to push yourself and grow but lift others in the process!
Get creating - we’d love to hear how you get on!
